Pizza Hut has introduced an innovative pizza box that transforms into a mini table, catering to customers in select cities.
This unique offering is available with the purchase of a large pizza at locations in Dallas, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Orlando, Florida. The company selected these cities based on a ranking from Penske Truck Rental, which identified them as top moving destinations in the U.S.
The new “Moving Box Table” is designed to help those who are moving by providing a convenient dining setup. The box features a red checkered corrugated design that easily folds into a sturdy base, allowing it to support the pizza box as a tabletop. This initiative aims to address the common challenge of dining without furniture during a move.
Starting on August 27, 2024, the Moving Box Table will be available for a limited time with carryout orders. This promotion is part of Pizza Hut’s strategy to boost sales amid declining same-store sales, which fell 3% in the second quarter. Other fast-food giants like McDonald’s and Starbucks have also reported similar trends in foot traffic and sales.
Melissa Friebe, Pizza Hut’s chief marketing officer, emphasized the chaos of moving and how the last thing people want to worry about is unpacking to enjoy a meal. She noted that many people have experienced eating pizza on the floor during moving days and expressed excitement about providing a more comfortable dining experience with the new table.
Pizza Hut has previously launched creative campaigns to engage customers, such as the “Goodbye Pies” campaign around Valentine’s Day and the “Reverse Delivery” initiative during the holiday season. The Moving Box Table is another step in enhancing the customer experience during a busy time of year.
