Whataburger has officially opened its fourth location in the Upstate, attracting over 100 eager customers to its grand opening at 2900 N. Main St. in Anderson on Monday. The new restaurant will operate 24/7, providing round-the-clock access to food and beverages.
The long-awaited opening follows a groundbreaking event held three months ago. Whataburger is expected to create numerous job opportunities, enhancing dining options for both residents and visitors.
Preston Hughes, Whataburger’s Operations Leader, estimates that the restaurant will generate over 750 new jobs in the greater Upstate area this year.
“We have already hired some amazing leaders ready to provide extraordinary hospitality around the clock,” Hughes stated.
The company has begun recruiting team leaders and staff members.
Among the new hires is 75-year-old Ruth Lanier, an Anderson County native who will serve as a greeter. “I wasn’t recruited, but I signed on to work as a greeter,” she said, welcoming customers with a warm smile.
The grand opening was filled with excitement, as training manager Reggie Evers led the crew in a cheer to kick off the day.
Customers were eager to experience Whataburger’s latest addition to the county, and the event featured special promotions and giveaways.
Joshua Lozano of Belton was the first customer to purchase a meal at the new location. “I have never done something like this before,” he said. Lozano, who waited in line for 24 hours, was excited about winning free Whataburger for a year. The restaurant also offered the first four customers free meals for a year and distributed 300 goody bags filled with merchandise.
Joelton Ruyl, the first in line at the drive-thru, shared his experience: “I slept all night in my car. I’m happy I’m getting my free Whataburger for a year.”
Whataburger’s menu features a variety of options, including chicken sandwiches, breakfast items, salads, boneless wings, and milkshakes.
The restaurant is easily recognizable by its iconic orange and white striped logo.
“Whataburger’s arrival in South Carolina is a dream come true for me,” said Ed Nelson, President and CEO of Whataburger.
“Our state’s rich culture and warm hospitality match perfectly with Whataburger’s tradition of bold flavors and extraordinary service.”
Looking ahead, Whataburger plans to open four additional locations across South Carolina by the end of 2024, further expanding its presence in the region.
