If you’re a fan of Taco Bell‘s breakfast burritos, there’s some disappointing news: some Taco Bell locations are discontinuing their breakfast menu. Whether you crave a Breakfast Crunchwrap or just a quick hash brown, Taco Bell’s breakfast offerings have long been a popular way to start the day with a Tex-Mex twist. So, why is breakfast disappearing from some Taco Bell restaurants?
Taco Bell has assured customers that only a “small minority” of locations will be affected, and emphasized that this decision was made carefully.
The fast-food chain explained that some franchise-owned restaurants have chosen to eliminate their breakfast menu as part of an effort to “streamline” their operations. While the exact number and locations of the impacted stores remain unclear, the changes are expected to be fully implemented by October and will only apply to franchised locations.
Out of the 8,500 Taco Bell restaurants across the country, about 500 are company-owned. The good news for breakfast lovers is that these company-owned locations will continue to serve all your morning favorites.
In a statement provided to USA Today, Taco Bell explained that franchises were given the choice to stop serving breakfast to allow them “the flexibility to focus on key drivers of growth.”
“Our Breakfast Crunchwraps and Breakfast Burritos are simple yet craveable,” Taco Bell stated. “That’s why we are continuing to serve breakfast in the majority of our restaurants, including all company-owned locations.”
So, while your local Taco Bell may no longer serve breakfast, it’s not all bad news. This change is being made in anticipation of new menu items, including an expanded coffee selection.
As brands like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ release coffee offerings to compete with Starbucks, Taco Bell has also promised to enhance its caffeine options. Currently, Taco Bell is testing frozen churro chillers at select locations, offering a preview of what’s to come.
