McDonald’s recently launched its “Collector’s Meals,” featuring six limited-edition cups, and these collectibles are already appearing on online resale platforms, fetching impressive prices. A full set of the cups sold on eBay for $99, while a single Hello Kitty-themed cup went for $25 plus shipping.
McDonald’s aimed to evoke nostalgia with these cups, likened by many to adult versions of Happy Meals. The strong demand in the resale market indicates the cups have captured public interest, though not all customers are pleased with their purchase.
A TikTok user, @littlemiss1stgrade, shared her disappointment, comparing the new plastic cups to McDonald’s older, heavier, engraved glass cups. Her video has garnered over 873,000 views and sparked more than 1,500 comments.
One TikTok user commented, “I was just about to go to McDonald’s to get one. This has changed my mind. Thank you kind internet stranger.” Another expressed frustration over the meal prices, stating, “Not only that but the price of the meals to get a plastic cup? Insane.”
In Orlando, a Collector’s Sausage McMuffin with Egg meal costs $9.49 before tax, while a medium-sized Collector’s Big Mac meal is priced at $11.59 before tax, with an option to upgrade to a large.
The cups are not without their drawbacks. One user lamented that they aren’t dishwasher safe, writing, “They’re not even dishwasher safe! I got it home and about threw it out the window. I hate handwashing cups more than anything.”
The new cups are made of plastic and are packaged in blue plastic bags in the U.S., along with a breakfast or lunch/dinner meal of choice. They feature a variety of popular franchises, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Beanie Babies, Coca-Cola, Hello Kitty, Peanuts, Shrek, Jurassic Park, Minions, and McDonald’s itself. These cups are available for a limited time, though McDonald’s has not specified when sales will end, nor did they respond to a request for more information from FOX Business.
