The $4.5 million McDonald’s project planned for Prospect Vale is experiencing delays following a wave of community feedback. The Meander Valley Council received about 20 comments from residents between mid-June and early July concerning the new fast food restaurant proposed for Westbury Road.
In response to this feedback, the council’s planning team has been engaging with McDonald’s to address the issues raised.
As a result, McDonald’s has been granted an extension for the planning process.
The council is scheduled to review the application at its next meeting on September 10. The new McDonald’s, which would be the fourth in the Launceston area, is set to be built on the former site of Jim’s Car Care Centre.
Currently, the site is undergoing remediation for fuel contamination under the supervision of the Environment Protection Authority. The proposed restaurant will include a drive-thru with two lanes, 45 parking spaces, six bicycle spaces, and will operate around the clock.
