McDonald’s aims to evoke the joy of a classic Happy Meal with its new line of collectibles. The ‘Collector’s Meal’ features a special lineup of cups that include iconic brands like Barbie, Hot Wheels, Beanie Babies, Coca Cola, Hello Kitty, Peanuts, Shrek, Jurassic Park, Minions, and classic McDonald’s collectibles like Grimace Glass and Boo Buckets.
The cups are designed to help long-time customers relive treasured moments and give a new generation the chance to create their own memories, according to Morgan Flatley, McDonald’s global chief marketing officer.
As part of the promotion, customers can choose between a Sausage McMuffin with Egg sandwich, Hash Brown, and Hot Coffee during breakfast hours, or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets or a Big Mac sandwich with fries and a soft drink throughout the day.
The promotion launches on August 13 for a limited time. McDonald’s partnered with various artists to create these special cups, which also come with their own augmented reality experience accessible via Snapchat or McDonald’s Snapchat profile.
This new promotion follows the chain’s recent announcement of testing a new burger called the “Big Arch.” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski described it as a “quintessential McDonald’s burger with a twist on our iconic, familiar flavors.”
These initiatives could help McDonald’s recover from a lackluster second quarter. With the launch of its $5 meal deal, McDonald’s may demonstrate to competitors why it remains a fast-food giant and how reinvention continues to work in its favor.
