Wendy’s, the renowned US fast-food chain, is set to make its debut in Ireland next year. This move comes as part of Wendy’s broader strategy to expand internationally, following its successful return to the UK market in 2021 after a two-decade absence. Currently, there are 31 Wendy’s locations in the UK, with plans to open an additional 350 restaurants.
J. Wunsch, Wendy’s International President, highlighted the company’s ambition to establish a stronger global presence, emphasizing Europe as a key market for growth. He expressed enthusiasm about partnering with franchisees who share Wendy’s vision to expand across the continent.
While Wendy’s briefly operated in Ireland starting in 1981, it ceased operations in 2003 without having conducted business.
Founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio, Wendy’s ranks as the third-largest burger fast-food chain globally, trailing only Burger King” href=”https://www.bestfastfoodfranchise.com/archives/tag/burger-king” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>Burger King and McDonald’s in US presence.
Known for its square hamburger patties, sea salt fries, and Frosty milkshakes, Wendy’s currently operates 6,038 restaurants in the United States. The company plans to open 30 new locations across Ireland over the next decade, aiming to carve out a significant presence in the Irish market.
The move follows a trend of US fast-food chains eyeing Ireland for expansion, with Carl’s Jr. announcing its own plans earlier this year. Krispy Kreme’s 2018 entry into Ireland also generated buzz, although its initial 24-hour drive-thru near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre faced challenges and closed shortly after opening due to local complaints about late-night queues.
