We’ve missed you, Kentucky Fried chips.
After almost ten years, KFC-flavor potato chips are making a comeback in Japan. These beloved snacks, which are a collaboration between KFC Japan and Japanese snack maker Calbee, were last available in 2015. The news is particularly exciting for those who fondly remember the unique taste of these chips.
I remember one of my best days at work involved taste-testing these KFC-flavor potato chips for SoraNews24. That assignment even allowed me to pair the chips with bourbon while on the job. The experience was memorable not only because of the bourbon but because Calbee successfully captured the distinctive flavor of KFC.
Now, Calbee is not only bringing back the KFC chips but introducing two different flavors. The first, KFC Original Chicken Flavor, aims to recreate the classic taste of the original fried chicken recipe created by KFC founder Colonel Sanders in 1940.
This flavor stays true to nearly a century of tradition. The second option, KFC Red Hot Chicken Flavor, caters to those who prefer a spicier snack, featuring a blend of white and red pepper with habanero chili. Both flavors have been supervised and approved by KFC Japan to ensure authenticity.
While Calbee has not announced a suggested retail price, it’s expected that the chips will be reasonably priced, likely just a few hundred yen, given their availability in Japanese convenience stores. Both flavors will be available starting July 8 and are scheduled to remain on sale until mid-August. However, as with most limited-time products, they are expected to sell out quickly, so fans should act fast to get their hands on these tasty snacks.
