A new Popeyes restaurant is set to open in Glasgow, with signs recently appearing outside an empty unit on Sauchiehall Street in the city center.
The bright orange shop frontage, typical of the American fried chicken chain, has caught the attention of passersby.
Although the name is currently concealed under tape, the branding strongly suggests it’s a Popeyes establishment. This development follows the chain’s approval in 2022 to operate at number 108 in the area. The decision comes on the heels of Popeyes’ successful launch in Barrhead in September 2023.
During the opening in Barrhead, customers lined up for hours, with one enthusiastic patron even camping out to be among the first to savor Popeyes’ signature fried chicken ‘crunch,’ made using their special Louisiana recipe. Graham Welsh from Paisley secured the coveted spot as the first customer in the drive-thru line and was rewarded with free chicken sandwiches for a year.
Popeyes has been expanding its presence in Scotland, having also opened a restaurant in Aberdeen in April. Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes UK, expressed excitement about bringing the flavors of New Orleans to fans in Aberdeen and Glasgow city center, following the resounding success in Barrhead.
While an official opening date for the Sauchiehall Street location is yet to be disclosed, Popeyes has been contacted for confirmation. Stay tuned for updates on this eagerly anticipated addition to Glasgow’s dining scene.
