McDonald’s has not disclosed the total number of Gold Card holders globally. Among the wealthiest individuals globally, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett enjoy special privileges from McDonald’s, granting them complimentary meals. The Gold Card allows them to dine for free at any McDonald’s restaurant worldwide throughout their lives, along with exclusive discounts and merchandise offers. According to McDonald’s latest update, the Gold Card entitles holders to two free meals per week for 50 years. Both billionaires unveiled their Gold Cards a few years back.
Warren Buffett showcased his Gold Card during an interview with CNBC in 2007, sharing insights into its use. “Here’s my McDonald’s card, which lets me eat for free at any McDonald’s in Omaha for life. That’s why the Buffett family celebrates Christmas dinner at McDonald’s. It sheds light on many things,” mentioned the Berkshire Hathaway chairman.
He also highlighted that Bill Gates’ card has global validity. “There are only a few of them. Bill Gates has one, and his works worldwide, I suppose. Mine works only in Omaha, but since I rarely leave Omaha, mine is just as effective as his,” stated Mr. Buffett, then aged 76.
With a net worth of $134.9 billion, Warren Buffett ranks as the world’s sixth-richest individual, according to Forbes. Bill Gates also referenced his Gold Card in a 2017 annual letter on his blog, recalling a humorous incident during a trip to Hong Kong when they opted for lunch at McDonald’s. “You graciously offered to pay, fished out your wallet, and pulled out coupons,” he wrote.
