Chick-fil-A Scholars
Eight employees from the Chick-fil-A in Sunnyvale have been awarded $2,500 scholarships each by the fast-food chain to support their college education. Since the scholarship program’s inception in 1973, Chick-fil-A Inc. has granted 41 scholarships to Sunnyvale employees, amounting to $102,500.
The 2024 recipients in Sunnyvale are Emily Hartley, Lucas Aubin, Joshua Shafer, Stacy Hernandez, Sael Enriquez, Jennifer Navarro, Danna Avila, and Edgar De La Pena.
Jennifer Navarro has now received two Chick-fil-A scholarships, with her first award coming in 2022.
Five of the scholarship winners are first-generation college students. Among them is Danna Avila, who is studying public health sciences at a local community college and plans to transfer to a four-year college in 2025. Her long-term goal is to become a surgeon and advocate for the Hispanic community. Avila has worked at Chick-fil-A Sunnyvale for three years.
Training for Electrification
Caltrain will suspend all train service between San Francisco and San Jose on the weekend of June 8-9 to test its new electric fleet.
Limited capacity replacement bus service will be available, stopping at San Jose Diridon, Palo Alto, and Millbrae stations.
No replacement bus or train service will be provided at other stations. Buses will have limited space for luggage and bikes, but bike parking options are available at most stations. Buses will also be ADA accessible.
Caltrain states that the new electrified system, set to launch in September, will provide faster and more frequent service, including doubling the frequency on weekends. The new trains will feature WiFi, power outlets at every seat, onboard displays with digital trip information, and increased storage capacities.
