ANN ARBOR, MI – Chick-fil-A is set to open a new restaurant in Ann Arbor after receiving approval from the city’s planning commission.
The fast-food chain plans to demolish the former Denny’s building at 3310 Washtenaw Avenue, which closed in March 2022, and construct a new establishment on the site. Chick-fil-A, Inc. announced that the new restaurant is expected to open in the fall of 2025, barring any construction delays. The company also mentioned that each new location creates 80 to 120 jobs.
Chick-fil-A is famous for its chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, and signature dipping sauce. The new Ann Arbor location will join more than 30 other Chick-fil-A restaurants in Michigan, according to the company’s website.
“We are pleased to confirm that we will be opening our first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Ann Arbor,” Chick-fil-A Inc. stated in an email. “We look forward to becoming part of the community and serving our guests delicious food in a welcoming environment.”
On May 21, Ann Arbor’s Planning Commission approved the plans for the new 5,240-square-foot building, which will include a front outdoor patio, 50 parking spaces, and six electric vehicle charging stations.
Notably, this new Chick-fil-A will be the first in Michigan without a drive-thru. Justin Lurk, the project development lead for Chick-fil-A, mentioned this detail during the May meeting.
The building will be set back 15 feet along the Washtenaw Avenue service drive. The patio will be located in the front, with parking on the side or rear of the building.
Jordan Chapman, the project manager representing the developer, Alrig USA, stated that the next step is to secure the necessary permits for construction.
“Once we have the permits, we plan to start construction immediately,” he said.
