LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — After years of planning, Chick-fil-A has officially received site plan approval from the Town of Colonie Planning Board to move forward with a new restaurant in Latham. The new location will be built at the former Brick House Tavern + Tap site in Latham Farms, located at 579 Troy Schenectady Road.
The planning board approved Chick-fil-A’s site plans during a meeting on April 22. Officials found no significant environmental impacts linked to the project. However, they stated that developers must address all outstanding engineering concerns before any building permits are issued.
Chick-fil-A first presented its plans for the Latham location to the Planning Board in August 2021. Progress stalled due to concerns about the potential impact on traffic. The company resubmitted its plans in November 2024, addressing those issues.
The approved plans call for the demolition of the old Brick House Tavern + Tap building. In its place, Chick-fil-A will build a new 5,000-square-foot restaurant with around 84 parking spaces. The restaurant plans to hire between 120 and 140 employees. It will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Construction of the new Chick-fil-A is expected to take about six months once it begins.
To help ease traffic concerns, Chick-fil-A plans to build a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Erin Street and the Dick’s Sporting Goods driveway. Signs will also be added to restrict left turns at the intersection of Dick’s Rear Service Road and Erin Street.
Currently, Chick-fil-A operates several locations across the Capital Region. These include restaurants in Albany, Clifton Park, and North Greenbush, as well as locations inside Albany International Airport and at the Thruway Service Area in New Baltimore.
