Tim Hortons Also Underway as Area Sees Major Development.
Pennsauken, NJ – A brand-new Taco Bell has officially opened on Route 130 in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The new fast-food restaurant sits on the site of the former Penn Queen Diner, a beloved local eatery that first opened in 1966.
The Taco Bell, which features a dual-lane drive-thru and modern design elements, is the first phase of a larger redevelopment project. Approved by the Pennsauken Planning Board in December 2023, the project began with the demolition of the diner in July 2024.
In addition to the Taco Bell, the site will soon welcome a Tim Hortons coffee shop, currently under construction next door. A third building is planned for mixed retail use, although development on that part of the site has not yet begun.
The new Taco Bell introduces several updated features that go beyond traditional fast-food layouts. These include a walk-up window for late-night order pickups and an outdoor covered patio with railing. The patio provides extra seating and gives customers a comfortable space to eat outside.
Inside, the restaurant offers a spacious dining area with multiple seating options. There are high-top tables in the center and a wide desk-style seating area fitted with outlets and chargers—ideal for customers who want to work while they dine.
Taco Bell has also leaned into digital ordering. The interior includes touch-screen kiosks, supporting the brand’s move toward a full digital ordering experience.
Just south of the new location, a Starbucks is also nearing completion. It is located about a mile away on Route 130, across from the Pennsauken Municipal Building.
Together with a nearby Wendy’s, the new Taco Bell and soon-to-open Tim Hortons create a cluster of well-known fast food brands along this busy commercial stretch of Route 130. The development signals continued investment in Pennsauken and a shift toward more modern and convenient dining options for the area.
