Chick-fil-A’s experimental “Little Blue Menu” test kitchen, located at 7242 Baltimore Ave. in College Park, Maryland, will temporarily close for a major remodel. The closure, which will result in the layoff of 91 employees, is set to take place on May 14. This action follows a Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the state on March 14.
The “Little Blue Menu,” which opened in September 2023, was a digital-ordering-only concept designed to test an expanded menu. Unlike traditional Chick-fil-A locations, this test kitchen offered items such as wings, burgers, and pizza, as well as other food options not typically available at Chick-fil-A restaurants. The name “Little Blue Menu” is a tribute to founder S. Truett Cathy’s original blue menu at the first Chick-fil-A location.
The menu also featured regional specialties, including Maryland’s iconic Old Bay seasoning, which was used as a topping on dishes like French fries, sweet potato tots, and onion rings.
According to a report from BizJournals, a Chick-fil-A spokesperson confirmed that the College Park location will undergo significant renovations, including the addition of a dining room. “Little Blue Menu looks forward to remaining a part of the College Park community and continuing to serve our guests great food and remarkable service,” the spokesperson said in an email.
The report further noted that a permit for the interior remodel was submitted to Prince George’s County in November 2023, though it remains under review. Affected employees will receive severance packages and will have the opportunity to reapply for positions when the restaurant reopens after the remodel.
