SILVER SPRING, Maryland – Starbucks has unveiled a new collection of mugs in its Silver Spring, Maryland location, designed to honor a unique customer base—the General Conference (GC) staff.
Rather than following their usual practice of branding mugs with the name of the city, Starbucks has chosen to pay tribute to what they describe as their “faithful yet nervous” GC patrons.
According to the coffee giant, GC staff regularly frequent Starbucks in Silver Spring, though they are often cautious when placing their orders. Starbucks employees have observed that these customers tend to keep a low profile, sometimes requesting their drinks be placed in plain paper bags or labeled “soup,” regardless of what is inside.
“We’ve noticed the subtle behaviors of our GC customers over time,” said Chloe Lezz, Starbucks’ merchandising manager.
“While we’re not exactly sure what’s going on, we want to acknowledge their loyalty with these new branded mugs.”
In a humorous twist, Lezz also mentioned that a set of the newly designed mugs, intended as a gift for the GC’s third-floor offices, was returned to the store, though the reason for the return remains unclear. Despite this, Starbucks remains committed to celebrating its loyal GC customers with the special release of these mugs.
