Carl’s Jr. to Launch 100 UK Locations Starting in April.
Burger lovers in the UK have something exciting to look forward to as Carl’s Jr., the famous Californian fast food chain known for “the best burgers,” is preparing to open 100 new locations. The American brand, which has been around since 1941, will kick off its UK expansion with its first location in Cardiff’s St David’s shopping centre in April. This move is part of a larger plan to bring the popular burger chain to more regions across the country.
Carl’s Jr. already operates over 3,600 locations worldwide, with both franchised and company-run outlets. As the brand sets its sights on the UK, they aim to open 100 locations over the next four years, with the first few sites expected to open in major cities, including a second location in the south of England by the summer.
David Moffat, the UK country manager for Carl’s Jr., spoke with Restaurant Online about their plans for expansion. “We are looking at a steady rollout, targeting 100 restaurants plus in the next four years,” Moffat said. He also mentioned that the company plans to open several corporate stores, but will also explore franchising toward the end of the year. “We’ve already had a lot of interest from large group franchisees,” he added.
While Carl’s Jr. will bring its popular American menu to the UK, they plan to adapt it to local tastes. Moffat revealed that the UK menu will be simpler than its US counterpart, focusing on key items like burgers, chicken, and fries. “The UK will likely have the smallest menu outside the US, which will focus on our core products,” he said.
Cultural adaptation is key for Carl’s Jr. in the UK. For example, to cater to local dietary preferences, the chain will remove bacon from its chicken burgers to offer halal-friendly options. The company has received a warm reception on social media, with fans praising Carl’s Jr.’s burgers. One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared, “Carl’s Jr. is the best fast food burger,” while another added, “Carl’s Jr. is still my best burger spot here. Highly recommend!”
Known for its standout menu items, Carl’s Jr. offers crowd-pleasers like the Six Dollar Burger, Hand-Scooped Milkshakes, and Charbroiled Turkey Burgers. These signature items have helped the brand become a favorite among fast food enthusiasts in the US.
Carl’s Jr. is part of the Boparan Restaurant Group, which oversees a diverse portfolio of nine brands. Another of the group’s successful ventures, Slim Chickens, has seen remarkable growth in the UK, expanding to 66 locations since its 2018 debut.
With this track record, Carl’s Jr. is poised to make a significant impact in the UK’s fast food market.
