CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — Whataburger has announced plans to open a new location in Crossville, set to be built on Genesis Road, directly across from Buc-ee’s and just north of Advanced Auto Parts.
During the Crossville City Council meeting on Tuesday, Mayor RJ Crawford shared the news, following a report from Ethan Hadley of the Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce.
“We’ve got some exciting news — Whataburger has submitted a site plan for approval, which will go before the planning commission either this month or next,” Crawford said. Crossville City Manager Valerie Hale confirmed that the plan would be reviewed this month.
“We’re excited to welcome Whataburger to our town. You all are the first to know,” Mayor Crawford added.
Ethan Hadley, in a statement to the Crossville Chronicle, highlighted the significance of Whataburger’s addition to the Genesis Road corridor. “This is another strong indication of the growing recognition of Crossville’s potential within the retail sector.”
The proposed site plan includes one driveway on Genesis Road and another at the rear along Donnelly Place. It also details a water connection to an existing 8-inch water line crossing Genesis Road, which will need adjustments. According to the city’s planning report, the city has agreed to reroute the water line to avoid interference with the driveway. A change to the water connection and stormwater management plan will be addressed in the final civil plans.
The city’s planning staff has recommended approval of the site plan, with contingencies including the approval of a Tennessee Department of Transportation driveway permit, modifications to the water line, stormwater permits, and changes to the water connection.
Whataburger currently operates 25 locations in Tennessee, and the Crossville restaurant will mark its easternmost location in the state. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the company operates over 1,090 restaurants across 16 states, generating more than $4 billion annually in systemwide revenue. The chain is celebrating its 75th anniversary and plans further expansion. Most Whataburger locations are open 24/7, year-round, except on Christmas Day.
The Crossville Planning Commission will meet on Thursday, March 20, at noon in City Hall to review the site plan.
