A vintage Hungry Jack’s catalogue from 2014 has resurfaced, stunning Australians with the stark price difference in fast food over the past decade.
Shared online, the old discount vouchers revealed not only significant price disparities but also the budget-friendly deals once available.
The catalogue boasted 18 meal deals, featuring two burgers starting at a modest $4.35. Promotions included two flame-grilled Whoppers for $6.35, two Chicken Royales for $4.95, and two Bacon Deluxe burgers for $7.35.
Those prices now seem like relics of the past. Today, a single Whopper commands $8.70, a staggering $2.35 more for just one burger compared to the earlier deal for two.
Sue Hayward, a personal finance and consumer expert, emphasized that the dramatic rise in fast food prices has rendered it impractical for families seeking a quick and affordable meal option.
“In recent years, fast food prices have skyrocketed, with burgers and fries seeing increases of up to 25-50% in some Australian chains over the past five years,” she explained.
