Mr. Charlie’s, a popular plant-based quick-service restaurant, is marking its third anniversary at its flagship location on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles with an exciting new launch. On Friday, February 14, the restaurant will introduce a fast-food first: “Mr. Fluff-Head,” a plant-based vanilla ice cream made from potatoes. The innovative treat will be topped with Mike Tyson’s signature “Mike’s Bites” chocolate ear, a nod to the boxing legend and the restaurant’s latest investor.
This groundbreaking launch makes Mr. Charlie’s the first fast-food chain to offer ice cream made from potatoes. Adam Wilks, CEO of Carma HoldCo., expressed the larger vision behind the launch, stating, “Mr. Charlie’s isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a movement. This launch represents creativity, community, and the power of plant-based food to change the way people eat.”
The ear theme is closely tied to Tyson’s legacy. The infamous moment in sports history occurred on June 28, 1997, when Tyson bit off a part of Evander Holyfield’s ear during their heavyweight rematch at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Last summer, Tyson even introduced ear-shaped cannabis gummies.
The plant-based potato ice cream is made using potato milk, an emerging dairy alternative praised for its sustainability and versatility. Potatoes are boiled and blended with water, rapeseed oil, and other ingredients to create a creamy, thick consistency suitable for both drinking and culinary use.
Tyson, who is also an investor in Mr. Charlie’s, shared his excitement about the brand, saying, “Mr. Charlie’s is a natural choice for Carma HoldCo as we expand into the food industry. I’ve always believed in the benefits of a vegan diet and was strict vegan for many years.” Tyson also emphasized his support for the restaurant’s social mission: “I’m proud to align myself with partners offering healthy, tasty alternatives in fast food. Mr. Charlie’s commitment to helping and hiring individuals from the homeless community is something I am deeply passionate about. I look forward to supporting this mission as Mr. Charlie’s grows globally.”
