A Canadian fast-food chicken restaurant is set to open in Southampton city centre. MB Chicken plans to take over the Above Bar Street unit previously occupied by Bangerz ‘n’ Burgerz.
ST Temptation Ltd has applied for a late-night refreshment licence, seeking permission to operate from 11pm to 3am at the new location.
According to documents submitted to Southampton City Council, MB Chicken aims to deliver high-quality, flavorful food using locally sourced ingredients and fresh preparation. The brand’s signature chicken is marinated, hand-breaded, and cooked in small batches to ensure a juicy, tasty experience. They also highlight their “irresistible” flavour, created with proprietary high-heat cookers.
MB Chicken is a part of Canada-based Mary Brown’s Chicken, which first opened in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 1969. The chain has since expanded to more than 250 locations worldwide, with the only UK outlets in Hounslow, London, and Lisburn and Belfast in Northern Ireland.
The licence application specifies that only takeaway and delivery services will be available after 11pm, with daily operating hours from 10am to 3am. At least three staff members will be present at all times, and no alcohol will be allowed on the premises.
A public consultation on the application is open until March 4.
Bangerz ‘n’ Burgerz, which previously occupied the space, went into liquidation last year after all its locations closed. The business, founded in 2018, had outlets across the south coast, including Southampton, Port Solent, and Chichester.
