WESTON, Wis. (WSAW) – A new Wendy’s restaurant is set to open in Weston on February 11, bringing a fresh dining option to the area.
The restaurant will be located at 5401 Business Highway 51, between Walgreens and the Schofield Post Office. The site, which had been an open lot for several years, was once home to a Big Lots store until the building was demolished in 2014.
Plans for the new location indicate it will employ approximately 30 people.
This new restaurant marks Wendy’s return to the area after closing its Schofield Avenue location in 2022. Fuzzy’s Taco took over that space last summer, and it remains vacant at present.
Wendy’s, founded by Dave Thomas in 1969 in Columbus, now boasts more than 7,000 locations worldwide, with 57 in Wisconsin alone.
The fast-food chain’s name was inspired by Thomas’ daughter, Melinda. According to the company, Melinda’s siblings had difficulty pronouncing her name, which led them to call her “Wenda,” eventually shortening it to “Wendy.”
