Though Lunar New Year is still a week away, Reverie Coffee Roasters is getting an early start on the celebration. The local coffee shop, located at 2202 E. Douglas, is marking the occasion with the launch of a limited-edition coffee named Sweet Lunar, set for release on Wednesday, January 24.
Andrew Gough, the owner of Reverie, shared that this special coffee comes from Da Lat, Vietnam, and is made from high-quality Arabica beans—a rare find for coffee sourced from Vietnam, where most beans are typically Robusta. Arabica beans offer a smoother, more refined flavor compared to the stronger, more bitter Robusta beans.
“We’re the only ones in Wichita offering Vietnamese coffee made from Arabica beans,” said Gough, noting that a similar release last year sold out quickly. Sweet Lunar will be available for purchase at Reverie’s East Douglas location, their Newton drive-through at 220 E. 12th St.The coffee will be available for just four weeks or until supplies run out.
To celebrate the release, Reverie will host an event on Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to noon, featuring a live lion dance performance by the East High School Lion Dance Team. A portion of the proceeds from Sweet Lunar sales will benefit the team, which has been performing during Lunar New Year celebrations in Wichita since 2007.
Attendees of the event will enjoy free samples of the coffee along with freshly baked goods, including a lumpia croissant, a Filipino-inspired treat. The first 50 customers to purchase a bag of Sweet Lunar coffee will receive a mystery gift.
The artwork featured on the coffee bag, designed by local artist Hung Le, celebrates the tradition of the Chinese lion dance.
