Pizza Hut, a popular pizza chain founded in 1958, began with two brothers, a $600 loan from their mother, and a dream to open a pizza restaurant in Wichita, Kansas. Today, the chain boasts almost 20,000 locations worldwide. But one U.S. state stands out, with significantly more Pizza Hut stores than any other.
Texas, known for its steaks, barbecue, and comfort food, might not be the first state people think of for pizza. However, it is home to a staggering 717 Pizza Hut locations, far more than any other state in the country.
Why does Texas have so many Pizza Huts? The answer lies partly in its size and the fact that Pizza Hut’s headquarters are based in Plano, Texas. The city, with a population nearing 300,000, plays a big role in maintaining these numerous locations. Additionally, the vast space available in Texas allows for more stores to be opened compared to smaller, more crowded states.
Texas also boasts nine “Pizza Hut Classic” locations, nostalgic spots that preserve the original Pizza Hut experience, complete with checkered tablecloths and iconic overhanging lamps. These classic locations offer a trip down memory lane, and many hope this vintage model will return to more locations in the future, rekindling childhood memories for patrons.
