Carl’s Jr, the renowned Californian fast food brand, is preparing to launch its first UK restaurant in Cardiff this April. The move marks the company’s entry into the UK market as it seeks to expand its international presence.
Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), the company behind Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Carluccio’s, has signed a master license agreement to introduce Carl’s Jr in the UK and Ireland.
Founded in 1941 in California, Carl’s Jr is famous for its chargrilled burgers, breaded chicken tenders, and ice cream shakes.
The brand’s first UK outlet, located in central Cardiff, will feature 50 seats and create 40 local job opportunities.
BRG has stated that the Cardiff location will combine Carl’s Jr’s signature West Coast ambiance with a welcoming atmosphere tailored to British preferences. They also hinted that this opening is only the beginning, with plans for more locations to follow soon.
David Moffat, Country Manager for Carl’s Jr UK, shared his excitement: “Carl’s Jr. has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, crave-worthy food that stands out in the burger market. We are thrilled to bring this iconic brand to Cardiff, and we’ve already seen incredible interest from fans eager to experience the Carl’s Jr difference. We look forward to welcoming them this April.”
With over 1,100 locations in 38 countries, Carl’s Jr is intensifying its global expansion efforts. The brand has a notable presence in Europe, with over 90 restaurants in Spain, France, Denmark, Turkey, and Switzerland.
Carl’s Jr joins a growing list of North American fast food brands entering the UK market, including Dave’s Hot Chicken, Five Guys, Tim Hortons, Popeyes, and Shake Shack.
