McDonald’s to Close Three CosMc’s Locations in Texas, Plans Smaller Stores for 2025

by Nick

McDonald’s has announced the closure of three of its CosMc’s locations in Texas, with plans to open smaller format stores in the state by 2025. CosMc’s, the company’s response to popular beverage chains like Starbucks and Dutch Bros, will downsize its Texas presence, according to a recent statement.

“We’ve gained valuable insights since opening CosMc’s, experimenting with different location sizes and setups,” McDonald’s said in the release. “As a result, we will launch two smaller format stores in Texas in 2025 and close three of the larger locations that were converted into CosMc’s.”

The company did not specify which Texas locations would close. Currently, CosMc’s operates two locations in San Antonio and four in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Another location is situated in Bolingbrook, Illinois, near Chicago.

In late 2023, McDonald’s introduced CosMc’s, a chain of beverage-centric restaurants, with plans to expand into select U.S. markets. San Antonio was chosen as one of the test markets, and the first location opened in August 2024.

“We’re just beginning to explore this growing market,” the McDonald’s release stated. “Our testing will continue as CosMc’s evolves.”
