Whataburger is preparing to open its first restaurant in North Carolina, with the initial location set for Hickory. The Texas-based burger chain held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday along U.S. Highway 70 Southeast, near Valley Hills Mall.
This marks the beginning of a significant expansion, as Whataburger plans to open a total of eight locations across the state.
Hickory Mayor Hank Guess expressed optimism about the new restaurant, stating it will boost economic development and attract more business to the area. “I think Whataburger is going to contribute really well in this area. We’re all about partnerships and relationships, and they talk about hometown and having that hometown feeling. So we’re really excited about the future here,” said Mayor Guess.
