MILTON, Del. — McDonald’s in Milton officially opened its doors on Tuesday, marking the completion of a long-awaited project. The fast food chain has been working to establish a presence in the town since October 2022, and despite some local debate, the restaurant’s arrival is being met with optimism by many.
Michael Meoli, the owner and operator of the new McDonald’s, expressed enthusiasm about joining the Milton community.
“Most people just come in and say ‘thank you for being here, we’ve been waiting a long time for a McDonald’s a little closer to where we are,'” he said. “We’re really glad to be here.”
Though the opening has stirred mixed reactions due to concerns over potential changes to the town’s historic character, Meoli believes the McDonald’s will blend seamlessly with its surroundings. “I understand the concerns, but I think we’ll fit right in,” he said.
The excitement doesn’t stop with McDonald’s. Less than half a mile away, a proposed Dunkin’ Donuts is in the works, with a preliminary site plan set to be discussed at Milton’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Cannery Village Clubhouse.
Ray Joseph, a frequent visitor to Milton, was present for the McDonald’s grand opening and voiced his support for the Dunkin’ Donuts proposal. “The people are here,” he said. “With this amount of people in the area, it’s definitely needed.”
As Milton continues to grow, both the new McDonald’s and the potential Dunkin’ Donuts are expected to play a role in meeting the demands of an expanding population.
