COLDWATER, MI – The Wendy’s restaurant in Coldwater, located at 523 East Chicago Street, has officially closed. A sign posted on the door on Monday announced that the location is now “permanently closed.” The nearest Wendy’s is now in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Despite the closure, employees were spotted behind the counter on Monday afternoon, likely working to shut down the restaurant’s operations.
In early November, Wendy’s revealed plans to close approximately 140 underperforming locations across the United States by the end of 2024. The company’s president and CEO, Kirk Tanner, stated that many of the closures involve outdated locations situated in slower-growth areas. These stores, on average, generated about $1 million annually, below the company’s usual performance.
The Coldwater Wendy’s was operated by TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants, a Livonia-based family-owned restaurant group. This company also oversees other popular brands in Michigan, including Applebee’s, Del Taco, MOD Pizza, and Olga’s Kitchen. TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants also runs the Applebee’s on East Chicago Street in Coldwater.
