Taco Bell continues to make waves in the fast food industry with a series of bold moves. After a year of introducing exciting items like Cheesy Street Chalupas and Big Cheez-It Tostadas, the chain is ending 2024 with another game-changing twist. This time, it’s not about a new menu item—it’s about a fresh approach to the Taco Bell experience itself.
The brand, originally known for its Tex-Mex offerings, has evolved over time, experimenting with products like the Mexican Pizza, Crispy Chicken Nuggets, and even Baja Blast gelato. But now, Taco Bell is taking its innovation a step further with the launch of its first-ever drinks-focused restaurant: the Live Más Café.
Introducing Live Más Café
Taco Bell isn’t the only fast food chain exploring unique restaurant concepts. Chick-fil-A has its Little Blue Menu, KFC has tried out KFC 11, and other brands are experimenting with takeaway-only models. But Taco Bell’s new venture, the Live Más Café, marks a significant departure from its Tex-Mex roots.
This café is aimed at beverage lovers, especially those who frequent Taco Bell for drinks like the signature Baja Blast or its variety of specialty slushes. Taco Bell’s drink menu has seen increasing popularity in recent years, particularly after the introduction of Coffee Chillers and Churro Chillers in December 2023. These beverages quickly became a hit, setting the stage for Taco Bell’s ambitious push into the world of coffee and beverages.
The Live Más Café is Taco Bell’s answer to major beverage chains like Dunkin’ and Starbucks. At this café, “Bellristas” (Taco Bell’s version of baristas) will craft trendy drinks that elevate the brand’s offerings beyond food. It’s a move that takes Taco Bell’s food-first reputation and blends it with an entirely new concept.
A Response to McDonald’s Beverage Strategy
If this concept sounds familiar, it’s because McDonald’s has already dabbled in the beverage-first restaurant space with its own concept, CosMc’s. Launched in late 2023, CosMc’s focuses on drinks like Popping Pear Slush and Sour Cherry Energy Burst, along with a select menu of specialty food items. While Taco Bell’s Live Más Café isn’t the first of its kind, it takes a much bolder approach by fully embracing the beverage industry.
To compete with established brands, Taco Bell is offering an extensive drink menu that includes four flavors of Churro Chillers (Wild Strawberry, Mexican Chocolate, Caramel Café, and Cinnavanilla Coffee), Agua Frescas, Rockstar Energy Refrescas, Limonada Iced Tea, and more. The standout item? The Dirty Baja Blast—a creative twist on the viral “dirty soda” trend that has taken over social media.
The First Location and Fan Excitement
The first Live Más Café is now open in Chula Vista, California. Operating daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the café has already garnered attention from Taco Bell fans on social media. Many have expressed excitement, with some even vowing to travel to Chula Vista just to try it out. “Sounds like a great idea!” one user wrote, while another shared, “I will fly there!”
The Battle for Beverage Dominance
While it’s still too early to declare a winner in the fast food beverage battle, Taco Bell’s entry into this space is a clear challenge to McDonald’s dominance. With Baja Blast and its bold new offerings, Taco Bell has the potential to make a significant impact on the beverage market and carve out a space of its own among the industry giants.
