Wendy’s in Amherst will host a Dine-to-Donate event on December 3 from 3 PM to 10 PM in memory of 9-year-old Alex Louks, who tragically passed away on November 20. The restaurant, located at 604 N Leavitt Road, plans to donate 20% of all sales from dine-in, drive-thru, and mobile orders to Alex’s family to help cover expenses.

Eddie Brenot, area director of operations at HAZA Foods, expressed his desire to support the family during this difficult time. “I know how much a funeral costs; it’s often more than you expect,” he said. “This event is a great way for the community to come together and show support.”

Typically, Wendy’s donates 15% during these events, but they have increased the amount for this occasion to provide additional assistance to the Louks family. A check will be sent to the family after the event, reflecting the total raised during those seven hours.

Brenot acknowledged that while this effort won’t alleviate their grief or heal their pain, it aims to lessen the financial burden they face. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone to unite and support this family,” he added.

To ensure the event runs smoothly, the restaurant will have extra staff on hand. Community members are also taking steps to honor Alex’s memory. Borns Lawn Care and the Lorain County Solid Waste Management are collaborating with the school district to create a memorial at Powers Elementary School.

Amherst Schools Superintendent Mike Molnar expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “On behalf of Alex, Powers Elementary School, and the school district, we thank everyone for their help,” he said. Further details about the memorial will be shared once finalized.

Alex Louks died on November 20 after his mother, Risa Louks, shot him before setting their home on fire and taking her own life. The incident is currently under investigation by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
