Subway Cancels $6.99 Meal Deal Due to Poor Sales Performance

by Nick

Subway has announced the early cancellation of its $6.99 meal deal, which was launched less than a month ago. The sandwich chain will remove the promotion from restaurant menus starting November 27, although customers can still order it through the Subway website and app until December 26.

The $6.99 meal deal was introduced on November 3 and included a choice of any chef-crafted or custom six-inch sub, a small fountain drink, and either chips or two regular cookies. Despite initial expectations during market testing, sales did not meet the company’s goals. A message sent to franchise operators indicated that while the meal deal achieved the expected number of daily redemptions, it ultimately failed to drive the anticipated overall results.

In light of this cancellation, Subway plans to introduce a new digital offer that provides customers with a 20% discount on any sub. This promotion will begin on November 27 and is expected to run through January 5.

The decision to end the $6.99 meal deal comes as Subway prepares for a leadership change. Chief Executive John Chidsey will retire at the end of the year but will continue to consult for the company, focusing on international expansion and partnerships with major global franchisees.

Subway’s recent efforts to attract customers with value-driven promotions reflect broader trends in the fast-food industry, where many chains are adjusting their strategies to meet consumer demand amid rising prices.
