Taco Bell is reviving a fan-favorite menu item, the Caramel Apple Empanada, for the first time in five years. This beloved dessert will return on November 21 as part of Taco Bell’s special Decades Menu.
The Caramel Apple Empanada was removed from the menu in 2019, just before the pandemic began, leaving many fans disappointed. Now, it is making a comeback alongside other nostalgic items from Taco Bell’s history. The Decades Menu features one popular item from each decade since the chain’s inception in the 1960s.
Since last month, Taco Bell has been reintroducing these classic items. Customers have already enjoyed the Green Burrito from the 1970s, the Tostada from the 1960s, the Meximelt from the 1980s, and the Beef Gordita Supreme from the 1990s.
The Caramel Apple Empanada, which debuted in the early 2000s, is expected to be a highlight of this lineup. This crispy pastry is coated in cinnamon sugar and filled with sweet apples and creamy caramel.
Fans on Reddit have expressed their excitement about the empanada’s return. One user noted that it was better than McDonald’s apple pies and mentioned plans to buy several for Thanksgiving dinner. A former Taco Bell employee shared insights into why the empanada was removed in the first place, citing its long frying time of three to six minutes, which caused delays at drive-thrus.
While the Caramel Apple Empanada will no longer be priced at $1 as it once was, many fans are eager to stock up on this nostalgic treat when it returns.
In addition to this exciting news, Taco Bell has also launched a limited-time promotion featuring other popular items from its past. The Decades Menu includes five beloved dishes that fans have requested over the years.
