Taco Bell has announced a delay in its plans to open its first locations in Germany, with the inaugural restaurant in Berlin now scheduled to open in the summer of 2025. This marks a significant shift from the original timeline, which aimed for a summer 2024 launch.
The franchise company İş Holding (ISH), which holds the rights to operate Taco Bell in Germany, confirmed the postponement to the German Press Agency (dpa) on Tuesday. A company spokesperson cited construction delays as the reason for the setback, stating, “There have been delays, so unfortunately it won’t happen as quickly as we thought.
However, our construction department is working on the realization.” The spokesperson did not provide specific details regarding the number of Taco Bell locations expected to open next year.
In May, ISH CEO İlkem Şahin expressed ambitious plans for expansion, aiming to establish 25 Taco Bell outlets within the year and a total of 100 to 150 over the next five years. Currently, Taco Bell operates only three locations in Germany, all situated on U.S. military bases and inaccessible to the general public.
Taco Bell is part of Yum! Brands, which also owns KFC and Pizza Hut. The company specializes in Tex-Mex cuisine, a blend of Mexican and American flavors that has gained popularity since Taco Bell’s founding in 1962. In the United States, Taco Bell operates over 7,200 restaurants through various franchise partners and has approximately 1,000 additional locations across more than 30 countries worldwide. In Europe, Taco Bell has established a presence in countries including the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
