ONTARIO — The site at 2005 August Drive, previously home to a Steak ’n Shake, is being cleared for a new Starbucks location scheduled to open in the fall of 2025.
The building, which has been vacant for over a decade, was originally purchased by Steak ’n Shake in 2000. It was sold to a limited liability company (LLC) in October 2023, as reported by the Richland County Auditor’s office.
A spokesperson for Starbucks confirmed the plans for the new location. “Starbucks is always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers, and we are happy to confirm that we will be opening a new location at 2005 August Drive, Ontario, Ohio in the fall of 2025,” the spokesperson stated.
Mayor Kris Knapp shared that Starbucks has obtained all necessary permits for both demolition and construction. “They’re clearing the soil now, and everything’s good to go,” he said.
Knapp expressed enthusiasm about the new business coming to town. “Any time that the city can bring in a new business and amplify our growth, that only enhances our community,” he added. The project will also involve relocating the parking lot and utilities.
Currently, Starbucks operates another drive-thru location at 2172 Walker Lake Road, situated in the same plaza as Crumbl Cookies and Meijer. Additionally, there is a Starbucks inside the Barnes & Noble on Lexington-Springmill Road.
In related news, Raising Cane’s is set to open a new restaurant at 720 N. Lexington-Springmill Road, which was previously a Denny’s. Mayor Knapp mentioned he hopes to review a demolition permit for that project next week. Cane’s public relations team has indicated that they aim for a summer 2025 opening.
