Subway is set to launch a new restaurant design called “Fresh Forward 2.0,” which aims to enhance the dining experience and improve convenience for customers. This updated design will be rolled out globally in 2025, following the success of the original Fresh Forward design introduced in 2017. Since then, over 20,000 Subway locations have undergone renovations to adopt a modern look, which has helped boost sales and rejuvenate the brand’s image.
The Fresh Forward 2.0 initiative will incorporate vibrant décor elements, including bold wall graphics and localized signage, as well as improved lighting and warmer wood tones. These changes are intended to create a more inviting atmosphere while also supporting Subway’s expanding digital sales channels.
Mike Kehoe, Subway’s Global Chief Development Officer, emphasized the importance of this redesign. He stated, “Fresh Forward 2.0 is an exciting evolution of the design, ensuring we continue to future-proof our business and deliver on our brand promises of experience and convenience.” Feedback from concept testing has been overwhelmingly positive, with many guests expressing a greater likelihood of dining in at Subway restaurants after experiencing the new design.
In addition to enhancing the ambiance, Fresh Forward 2.0 will facilitate Subway’s digital transformation. The company is currently testing self-service kiosks and kitchen display systems in various markets, which aim to streamline operations and provide added convenience for customers.
Kehoe noted that each restaurant design marks a significant milestone for Subway. He believes that Fresh Forward 2.0 has the potential to greatly impact both guests and franchisees by integrating marketing, culinary offerings, and digital efforts.
The rollout of Fresh Forward 2.0 will begin in several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Panama, and Australia in the coming months. This initiative reflects Subway’s commitment to evolving its brand while meeting the needs of its customers and franchise partners.
