Chick-fil-A, the American fast food chain famous for its chicken sandwiches, has announced plans to establish its first restaurant in Singapore. The company intends to invest $75 million in its expansion across Asia, with Singapore as the initial focus. The first outlet is expected to open in late 2025.
Anita Costello, Chick-fil-A’s chief international officer, emphasized Singapore’s strategic importance and the local population’s love for food as key reasons for the choice. “The profound love that Singaporeans have for food, along with the city’s role as a gateway to the Asian market, makes it the ideal location for our first permanent restaurant in the region,” she stated.
This announcement follows a successful three-day pop-up event at the Esplanade in June, where Chick-fil-A served its popular chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. Proceeds from the sold-out event were donated to the Community Chest charity.
Seeking Local Franchisees
In preparation for its Singapore launch, Chick-fil-A is actively searching for local franchisees, referred to as Operators. The company describes this opportunity as a chance to build a business, shape a culture, and invest in the future.
On its “Singapore Franchise Opportunity” webpage, Chick-fil-A expressed its desire for franchise owners with an entrepreneurial spirit who want to contribute to their communities. “We’re looking for leaders who want to make a difference and introduce Chick-fil-A to new places,” the announcement noted.
Franchisees are expected to be hands-on at their locations, and typically, they are not allowed to own more than one restaurant to ensure their focus and commitment. According to local reports, Singapore franchisees will also participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, which provides surplus food to local nonprofits to help those in need.
Chick-fil-A utilizes a unique franchise model that requires only a minimal franchise fee, as the company covers most startup costs. However, franchisees must pay rent, a base operating fee, and follow a profit-sharing model.
Will Chick-fil-A Remain Closed on Sundays?
Founded in 1946, Chick-fil-A is the third-largest quick-service restaurant chain in the United States, with over 3,000 locations across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. While many are excited about the upcoming Singapore restaurant, a common question arises: will it adhere to the chain’s tradition of closing on Sundays?
Some netizens speculate that high rental costs in Singapore might prompt the chain to stay open on Sundays. However, it seems likely that Chick-fil-A will maintain its policy of closing on Sundays. The company’s franchise opportunity page states, “Six days a week, in neighborhoods across the globe, more than 3,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants serve hand-breaded chicken sandwiches, hot waffle fries, and genuine hospitality.”
