The Czech Republic is becoming a prime destination for international brands, particularly American fast-food chains and European discount retailers. Following a positive market shift post-inflation, several global chains are preparing to launch in the country.
Local consumers are eager for new options, and the arrival of foreign brands promises heightened competition and attractive marketing strategies, including potential discounts.
Among the highly anticipated entrants is the American chain Five Guys, known for its gourmet burgers. Set to open this fall in the renovated Máj department store on Národní Street in Prague, the exact date is still pending. Five Guys aims to offer a premium burger experience, competing with established brands like McDonald’s and Burger King. This expansion follows the opening of Popeyes last year, and Wendy’s, the third-largest burger chain globally, plans to enter the Czech market in 2025 with up to 50 locations, although the first location remains unannounced.
Additionally, Rave Restaurant Group attended an event at the U.S. Embassy in Prague earlier this year, seeking franchisees for its American brands Pie Five and Pizza Inn.
Not all newcomers are American. Lviv Croissants, a Ukrainian chain specializing in sweet and savory croissants, recently opened its first Czech outlet in Prague’s Palladium shopping center. The chain has 178 locations in Ukraine and has also expanded into Poland.
The Czech market is also set to welcome discount retailers. Woolworth, a German chain offering affordable clothing and home decor, plans to enter the Czech market by the end of 2025 and is currently negotiating leases. Müller, a well-known German drugstore chain, aims to first establish itself in Slovakia but is interested in entering the Czech Republic as well.
Additionally, the Polish discount chain Dealz, part of the same group as Pepco, is rumored to be considering the Czech market, although no official announcement has been made.
These new entrants will contribute to the growing discount retail landscape in Czechia, which has seen brands like Primark, HalfPrice, and TEDi expand in recent years.
