McDonald’s has officially reintroduced the McRib to its UK menu after nearly ten years of absence. Starting today, the beloved pork sandwich will be available for a limited time at locations across the country.
The McRib has developed a cult following due to its sporadic appearances on menus. Initially launched in 1981, it was removed from the UK menu in 2005. Unlike in Germany and Luxembourg, where it remains a permanent offering, the McRib has made only brief returns to the UK menu since its discontinuation, with the last appearances occurring between 2014 and 2016.
The sandwich features a uniquely shaped pork patty that resembles ribs, topped with barbecue sauce, pickles, and onions, all served in a long bun. Despite its absence, fans have eagerly anticipated its return, often theorizing that its limited availability correlates with fluctuating pork prices. McDonald’s has stated that the limited-time offerings are intended to keep the menu fresh throughout the year.
Thomas O’Neill, Head of Menu at McDonald’s UK, expressed excitement about the McRib’s return. “It is more than just a sandwich; it’s a phenomenon,” he said. “We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social media – and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.”
O’Neill added that it was essential for McDonald’s to respond to customer demand. “Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice – we had to make it happen. It was time to step up and satisfy the cravings of McRib enthusiasts across the country.”
While McDonald’s has not disclosed how long the McRib will be available in the UK, customers are encouraged to act quickly. The sandwich is priced at £4.49 for a single burger or £6.19 as part of a medium extra value meal.
As fans rush to enjoy this iconic dish once again, they are reminded that supplies are limited. The return of the McRib marks an exciting moment for both loyal customers and new fans alike who wish to experience this unique offering from McDonald’s.
