Pizza Hut, in partnership with Americana Restaurants, has opened its first inclusive restaurant in Saudi Arabia, employing staff with hearing and speech impairments. This initiative, part of the “Opportunity4All” campaign, aims to promote inclusivity and empowerment while aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
The restaurant was inaugurated during the International Week of Deaf People 2024. It is located in Andalusian Plaza, Al Nahda, Riyadh. The program reflects Pizza Hut’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for everyone.
Commitment to Inclusivity
Nadine El Hadad, Chief People Officer for Pizza Hut Global Franchisee Markets, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “Launching this restaurant on such a significant day was a symbolic step in our journey towards inclusivity,” she said. “We believe in the power of diverse talents and are proud to celebrate the abilities of our new team members.”
The staff at this location are supported by senior team members who have undergone sign language training. This training was part of a collaboration with Sa3ee, a local NGO that helped with hiring and onboarding.
Future Expansion Plans
Pizza Hut plans to expand this initiative across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East. The goal is to create more job opportunities for individuals with disabilities and set a precedent for inclusivity in the region.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has endorsed this initiative, recognizing its significance in nation-building and achieving Saudi Vision 2030. Fawaz alMalki, Director General of the Ministry, stated that providing employment opportunities for people with special needs is crucial for fostering an inclusive environment.
Community Celebration
To celebrate the opening, Pizza Hut hosted an event attended by dignitaries from Sa3ee, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and leaders from Yum! Brands and Americana Restaurants. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and was interpreted in sign language, highlighting the commitment to inclusivity.
Amarpal Sandhu, CEO of Americana Restaurants, expressed pride in extending their community initiatives to Saudi Arabia.
“We are committed to growing Americana’s community of People of Determination across our markets,” he said.
Marzouk Bin Amria, Chairman of Sa3ee, added that this collaboration demonstrates how businesses and NGOs can drive meaningful change for individuals with disabilities.
With this new restaurant opening, Pizza Hut aims to enhance its global presence while making a positive impact on local communities.
