8th October 2024 – A recent social media post showcasing the contrasting signs of Chagee and Starbucks at Hong Kong International Airport has ignited discussions among netizens. The image highlights the newly launched Chinese tea chain Chagee on one side and Starbucks on the other. Many commentators believe Chagee’s offerings, which cater to local tastes, could challenge the coffee giant.
Chagee recently debuted in Hong Kong and is rapidly expanding its presence. One user commented, “If I had to choose, I’d definitely go for the left side; it’s cheaper and tastier. The ingredients and flavors are more suited to Chinese preferences.”
Others praised the health benefits of Chagee’s ingredients, while many shared humorous comparisons between the two brands.
The first Chagee store opened in K11 Art Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui and features popular products like Jasmine green milk tea.
The brand has reportedly sold over 600 million cups globally. Rex Ho, the operation director for Hong Kong and Macao, stated, “We hope to promote traditional Chinese tea culture worldwide and provide premium tea drinks to consumers in the Asia-Pacific region.”
Since opening its first store in Yunnan in 2017, Chagee has expanded swiftly across Southeast Asia, now boasting over 5,000 locations worldwide. With its entry into the competitive Hong Kong market, Chagee aims to enhance its global presence and establish itself as a strong competitor to established coffee chains like Starbucks.
Expanding Global Reach
Chagee’s rapid growth reflects a rising demand for oriental tea. The brand is committed to modernizing traditional tea-making methods while promoting health benefits and cultural exchange. As it continues to expand internationally, Chagee is positioning itself against major players like Starbucks, aiming for a significant share of the global market.
