McDonald’s Canada proudly marks the 20th anniversary of its Happy Meal RMHC Fundraising Program. Since its inception, every Happy Meal sold has not only delighted customers but also supported families through Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Canada.
The program has achieved remarkable milestones, including over 1 billion Happy Meals sold and $100 million raised for RMHC across the nation.
To commemorate this achievement, McDonald’s Canada is recognizing the “Happiest Cities & Towns” in Canada that have contributed significantly to this success by selling the most Happy Meals. These communities have played a vital role in improving the lives of families with sick children.
“If you have purchased a Happy Meal at a McDonald’s restaurant in Canada in the last two decades, you’ve supported RMHC in its mission and helped families in your own community,” said Michèle Boudria, President and CEO of McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “As the founding and forever partner of RMHC Canada, we wanted to recognize the communities that have provided the most support just by enjoying a Happy Meal!”
Based on sales data from 2023, Langley, British Columbia, has been officially named the “Happiest City.” Other top-selling cities include:
Alberta: Lethbridge
Manitoba: Thompson
Saskatchewan: Prince Albert
Ontario: Mississauga
Quebec: Gatineau
Atlantic Region: Dartmouth, NS
Since 2004, a portion of every Happy Meal sold has supported 16 Ronald McDonald House locations and 19 Ronald McDonald Family Room programs across Canada. These initiatives aim to care for families with children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The Happy Meal program is one of several fundraising efforts by McDonald’s that have aided RMHC in supporting over 468,000 families nationwide.
“Every family who orders a Happy Meal gets to share a special moment together while helping to keep families with sick children close to each other and close to essential medical care they need,” said Kate Horton, President and CEO of RMHC Canada. “Today, RMHC across Canada cannot fully meet the critical needs of families due to space limitations. As we strive to expand our services to assist more families, even the smallest contribution makes a big difference for those in need.”
McDonald’s Canada, along with its independent franchisees, crew members, corporate employees, supplier partners, and guests, continues to support RMHC daily through the sale of Happy Meals and RMHC Cookies. Donations are also collected through coin boxes and the Round Up option at kiosks. In 2022, McDonald’s Canada set an ambitious goal to raise over $70 million for RMHC by 2026. This funding will significantly increase the number of bedrooms available for families across Canada from 552 today to more than 893 by 2028.
