DES MOINES, Iowa – Chick-fil-A fans who frequent the University Avenue location in West Des Moines will need to find an alternative for their waffle fries and fried chicken sandwiches. The restaurant closed on September 1 for a remodel.

“Chick-fil-A University Ave. (4502 University Ave. in West Des Moines) is temporarily closed for interior and exterior updates and is expected to reopen later this fall, pending any delays,” a Chick-fil-A representative told the Des Moines Register. “The remodeled restaurant will feature an updated dining room with new seating and refreshed décor.”

The location, owned and operated by David Grimm, also plans to add outdoor canopies and make improvements to the parking lot and drive-thru.

The University Avenue restaurant first opened in October 2015, taking over the site of a former Macaroni Grill. Chick-fil-A demolished the previous building to make way for dual drive-thru lanes, an outdoor patio seating 30, an indoor play area, and space for 130 diners.

The Des Moines metro area is home to several other Chick-fil-A locations, including the first one that opened in 2005 at Jordan Creek Town Center. The chain also has restaurants in Ankeny, Des Moines, and West Des Moines. Iowa currently boasts 17 Chick-fil-A restaurants in total.
