Construction has started on a new Burger King drive-thru in Crewe, marking a significant development at the Grand Junction Retail Park. The site, which was previously approved for a Tim Hortons, will now host the popular fast-food chain, with operations expected to commence later this year.
Work officially began on Monday, August 12, following planning permission granted by Cheshire East Council last November for a drive-thru at the location. Originally, the approval was for a Tim Hortons, but the site will now welcome Burger King instead.
In July, Burger King secured advertisement consent for the former Frankie & Benny’s/Gourmet 4 unit, paving the way for 21 new signs to be installed around the site. The drive-thru is currently under construction next to TK Maxx, alongside the 3,250 square foot retail building.
In addition to the drive-thru, modifications are being made to the existing car park, with discussions about adding a potential play area and extra seating within the restaurant.
This project follows a previous attempt by Burger King to establish a presence in Crewe, which ultimately fell through. In 2021, the fast-food giant received planning permission for a drive-thru at Market Shopping Centre Car Park. However, this plan was abandoned in April 2023 when McDonald’s purchased the site for £1.4 million. McDonald’s has since opened its third branch in Crewe, launching earlier this March.
