McDonald’s and Pokémon are partnering again for a new Happy Meal promotion featuring Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
This latest version of the long-running Pokémon anime began airing in Japan last April and arrived in the US via Netflix in March. The series introduces new protagonists, Liko and Roy, who explore the Paldea region, encountering Pokémon from the 2022 games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
With the show’s success, fans speculated about a possible new Happy Meal promotion. Over the years, McDonald’s has released several Pokémon-themed Happy Meals, often including special toys or limited-edition trading cards. Recent promotions in Japan featured festival-themed toys in August and special cards with Pikachu and the Scarlet and Violet starters in September.
McDonald’s Japan recently announced a new Pokémon Happy Meal promotion in two waves, as revealed on their official YouTube channel. The promotion will include toys themed after Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
Wave 1 (August 8-15)
- Captain Pikachu’s Spinning Waterwheel
- Terrapagos’ Poké Ball Watering Can
- Sprigatito’s Shovel Set
- Fuecoco’s Frisbee
Wave 2 (August 16-22)
- Quaxly’s Water Gun
- Captain Pikachu’s Roller
- Sprigatito’s Telescope
- A Poké Ball Compass (featuring Fuecoco, Captain Pikachu, Quaxly, and Sprigatito)
The first wave, from August 8 to 15, will offer toys such as a Captain Pikachu-themed spinning waterwheel, a Poké Ball watering can with a plastic Terrapagos, a shovel set inspired by Sprigatito, and a Fuecoco frisbee. The second wave, from August 16 to 22, will introduce a Quaxly water gun, a Captain Pikachu roller, a Sprigatito telescope, and a Poké Ball compass featuring images of Fuecoco, Captain Pikachu, Quaxly, and Sprigatito.
A third wave, starting August 23, will clear any remaining toys from the previous weeks. There is no information yet on whether these new Pokémon Happy Meal toys will be available outside Japan. This promotion continues McDonald’s trend of video game-themed promotions. Earlier this year, they offered Kirby plushies in Japan and MultiVersus tins and puzzles in other regions.
