Burger King Japan is bringing excitement to fans of Dr. Pepper with a nationwide menu update. Starting July 26, the fast-food chain will offer both Dr. Pepper and Dr. Pepper floats across Japan.
Dr. Pepper, known for its unique blend of sweet, bitter, and spicy flavors, has always been a niche choice in Japan. While sugary sodas are less common in Japan compared to the U.S., Dr. Pepper’s distinctive taste often receives mixed reactions.
Despite this, the drink has a loyal following in Japan, affectionately known as “Dokupe.”
In its announcement, Burger King Japan highlights Dr. Pepper’s 139-year history and its recent rise in popularity in the U.S., where it has surpassed Pepsi to become the second-best-selling soda. Alongside regular Dr. Pepper, the chain will serve Dr.
Pepper floats made with vanilla ice cream. Additionally, Burger King Japan will debut its new American Smoky Chicken on the same day.
To encourage Japanese consumers to give Dr. Pepper a fair chance, Burger King Japan’s official Twitter account describes the drink as having “a unique taste made with over 20 blended flavors that you’ll get hooked on after the third try.”
Twitter reactions include:
“Dr. Pepper is my Drops of God.”
“This is going to pair perfectly with a big burger!”
“The first sip is OK, the second sip starts to make sense, and by the third sip, you’re hooked.”
“I fell in love with Dr. Pepper after just one sip!”
“A Dr. Pepper float sounds sinful in the best way.”
Prices are set at 230 yen (about $0.95) for a small Dr. Pepper, 280 yen for a medium, and 330 yen for a large. The Dr. Pepper float, available only in a small size, costs 270 yen.
