Starbucks and Mercedes-Benz have announced a new partnership to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at 100 Starbucks locations across the United States. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility to high-power EV chargers, starting with a rollout along Interstate 5 from Washington to California.
The collaboration will feature 400 kW EV chargers equipped with NACS cables, capable of supporting a wide range of vehicles. Starbucks plans to expand the network further, including locations on the East Coast, to address urban areas and charging gaps.
For Starbucks, integrating EV charging aligns with its environmental commitment to becoming a resource positive company by storing more carbon than it emits, reducing waste, and conserving water. This effort builds upon previous partnerships, such as with Volvo, to establish EV chargers along key routes.
Michael Kobori, Starbucks’ Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasized the goal of seamlessly integrating EV charging with the coffee experience, making sustainability accessible to all EV drivers.
Mercedes-Benz, known for its ambition to electrify its fleet by 2030, sees this collaboration as a step towards enhancing the EV ownership experience. Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, highlighted the intention to create enjoyable and efficient charging experiences that rival the ease of visiting Starbucks.
This initiative follows Mercedes-Benz’s broader strategy to establish a global network of over 10,000 high-power chargers across North America, Europe, and China, supporting its goal of carbon neutrality by 2039.
