A woman from Texas has alleged that a Burger King” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>Burger King employee wrote a racial slur on her receipt after an order mix-up at a restaurant in Austin, as reported by Fox 7.
The incident unfolded on Sunday, June 23, when the customer, who opted to remain anonymous, ordered a fiery wrap and small fry from the drive-thru. After realizing her order was incorrect, she requested a replacement or a refund.
“They made my order wrong, so I let them know the food was messed up. ‘Do you mind fixing it, or can I get something else?’ And at first, he was like no, and I was like ‘ok, can I just get my money back,'” the customer recounted.
Although she received a refund, the employee initially refused to provide a receipt. It was only after another staff member intervened that she was given a “customer copy” of the receipt.
“I got the receipt, I drove out of the drive-thru, but as soon as I came around the corner I looked down on the receipt,” she stated.
To her shock, the receipt displayed the refunded amount with the reason noted as “customer,” followed by a racial slur.
“It said the reason that he basically refunded me was because I was an n-word,” the customer recalled.
Following the discovery, the woman entered the restaurant to address the issue with the employee, who identified himself as the manager but declined to provide his name or corporate contact details.
Convinced that the racial slur was intentionally included on the receipt, the customer expressed her desire for justice.
“He definitely intentionally put it on there. That is why he did not want to give me the receipt, something definitely needs to happen because no one should feel the way I feel right now,” she emphasized.
Reflecting on the incident, she described the emotional impact, particularly as an African American woman in today’s society.
“It was very, very devastating, just to think that we are still going through that in today’s times. As a black woman, it was just a lot. I will never go back to Burger King again,” she concluded.
The woman is seeking resolution and hopes for appropriate action to address the incident. Burger King has yet to issue a statement regarding the matter.
