McDonald’s Korea Stops French Fries Sales Over ‘Substandard’ Potatoes

SEOUL – McDonald’s Korea, a subsidiary of the global fast-food chain McDonald’s, announced on Thursday that it has temporarily halted the sales of french fries due to concerns about the quality of its frozen potatoes.

In an official statement, McDonald’s Korea explained, “Due to an unexpected issue within our supply chain, we are temporarily unable to provide French Fries.”

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience and assured customers, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, and we will do our best to resume sales as soon as possible.”

While McDonald’s Korea did not initially clarify the specific supply chain problem, they later informed Yonhap News Agency that the suspension was due to “concerns about substandard frozen potatoes.”

This is not the first time McDonald’s Korea has faced such issues. The company also halted french fries sales in 2021 and 2022 due to global supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, McDonald’s Korea recently increased prices for 16 menu items by an average of 2.8 percent. The price of their signature Big Mac rose from 6,900 won ($4.98) to 7,200 won.
