Wendy’s is getting saucy this summer with the launch of its new “Saucy Nuggs,” offering their classic chicken nuggets tossed and coated in seven different flavors. The new menu items come as spicy and “swicy” flavors continue to be popular among consumers.
“This new innovation is all about providing a next-level culinary experience rooted in flavor,” said John Li, global vice president of culinary innovation at The Wendy’s Company. “We crafted four unique sauces to complement the Wendy’s nugget experience and to provide fans with a variety of chicken options that meet their lifestyles and palettes.”
The seven flavors include:
Honey BBQ: A sweet and tangy sauce with a subtle hint of honey.
Garlic Parm: A classic savory flavor with a balance of garlic and parmesan.
Buffalo: A classic buttery sauce with a touch of vinegar.
Spicy Honey BBQ: A mix of sweet and spicy for those who want to kick up their Honey BBQ experience.
Spicy Garlic Parm: A fiery take on the classic Garlic Parm sauce with a sharp roasted garlic flavor.
Spicy Buffalo: An intense kick of spice balanced with a tang of vinegar.
Spicy Ghost Pepper: For the adventurous eaters, this sauce packs an intense heat with a lingering flavor.
The nuggets are served with a side of ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce and are available in four, six, ten, or twenty-piece counts.
Wendy’s isn’t the only fast food chain jumping on the saucy bandwagon. kfc” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” title=”KFC” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>KFC also launched its own line of “saucy nuggets” earlier this year in five flavors. This week, KFC announced a new BBQ sauce flavor for their summer menu, adding to their existing Honey Sriracha and Korean BBQ sauces.
Market research firm Circana’s packaged goods and foodservice industry advisor, Sally Lyons Wyatt, told CNN that the spicy trend is here to stay.
